The recently elected Mayor of Karachi, Wasim Akhtar, who is still under custody, came out for a press briefing today on 10th October.
Wasim Akhtar said that, he believes in the decision of the court and that justice would soon be served. He assured talking to the media that he would come out soon and immediately start working for his city, Karachi, and the people. “I will bring back the lights in Karachi,” he said.
He further said that the Deputy Mayor had the authority to take actions and fulfill all responsibilities, in the duration of his absence. The Mayor showed great disappointment as he spoke about the recent ‘All Party Conference 2016’ where all MPAs had been invited by the Sindh Government, except him. He claimed that he should have been invited to the conference and that he would bring it to the knowledge of Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
“I look weak as I am wearing Shalwar Kameez, otherwise, I have not lost hope,” he remarked. He repeated his statement saying, “I will soon rejoin my people and work hand in hand for the betterment of my city.” He ended his brief by thanking every individual who has supported him at this time of need.
