Read how much tax did Pakistani political elite pay last year

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has released the tax directory of the parliamentarians. The directory gives us a peek into the tax situations of those who sit inside the glass walls writing this country’s fate. The report shows the income tax paid by member of the National Assembly and Senate. But, the report portrays a big difference between what they are paying and how they are living.

As per the directory of 1,074,000 taxpayers for the tax year 2015, some parliamentarians are among the toppers.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif, paid Rs 2.195 million in the name of tax. On the other hand, the Chief Minister of Punjab and his brother Shahbaz Sharif pays about Rs 7.609 million and his son Hamza Sharif pays Rs 6.33 million. Retired Captain and the son-in-law of PM, Capt Muhammad Safdar, paid mere Rs 49,902 as income tax. Like, such a load of income tax could save our whole nation!

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s chairman Imran Khan paid Rs 76,244 tax during the year. Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam’s chief Fazlur Rehman also paid a meager Rs 49,902.

The lowest income tax paid was Rs 1,854 by MNA Chaud­hry Muhammad Ashraf and the highest Rs 37.607 million by Jehangir Khan Tareen. According to the directory, senators paid more income tax than the MNAs.
