Qari Ajmal, the terrorist behind Sri Lankan team attack, killed

Qari Ajmal, the brainchild of the Sri Lankan cricket team attack in Lahore, 2009 has allegedly been killed in Afghanistan.

As per the reports through various media sources, Ajmal was a leader of the barred Lashkar-e-Jhangi (LeJ). He had fled to Waziristan after the disastrous attack on the Sri Lankan team.

After the investigations related to attacks died down, he fled to Afghanistan and lived under the Mehsud Taliban faction in Paktika province, Afghanistan which is situated around the Pakistani border.

Qari Ajmal is the second Pakistani militant leader who has been actively killed by the US-led Nato and Afghan forces in about two weeks. Earlier, on September 25, another Pakistani Taliban commander Azam Tariq along with his son was killed in Paktika.

The 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan team left seven police officers dead, while, Mahela Jayawaredene, Kumar Sangakkara, Ajantha Mendis, Thilan Samaraweera, Tharanga Paranavitana and Chaminda Vaas were left severely injured.
