According to a leading news agency, the federal government is likely to announce the appointment of the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS) in the next 10 days.
Tariq Fazl Chaudhry, State Minister for Capital Administration has claimed that the name of the Army Chief has not been finalized yet, however; it is likely to be decided and announced officially in a week or so.
“The government has not yet decided [as to who will be the new army chief] but is likely to announce his name in a week or ten days’ time,” said Chaudhry in response to a question asked during a news conference which he addressed alongside PML-N leader Daniyal Aziz.
Army chief General Raheel Sharif is set to retire in November this year and has announced not to seek an extension in his tenure.
