A 28 year old man has been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment along with 2000 lashes as a punishment for merely putting up a tweet portraying his religious beliefs. A court in Saudia Arabia has punished the man for claiming himself an Atheist on Twitter.
Regardless of the punishment declared in court, the man refused to move back from his statement protesting that he had the right to express what he felt regardless of the country he resided in or what religion they believed.
The police being Saudia Arabia in charge of monitoring all social networks, found over 600 tweets denying the existence of God, disrespecting Quranic verses, further accusing all Prophets of falsehood and saying that their teaching arose hostility and hatred.
The court further fined the accused of £4,000. He has been sentenced under a controversial law that defines atheism as “terrorism”.
