Muslims came as one to Catholic Mass in a signal of solidarity after the homicide of a cleric on Tuesday.
Fr Jacques Hamel was executed in his congregation in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray close Rouen by two men who had promised constancy to the Islamic State bunch.
France’s Muslim gathering, the CFCM, encouraged Muslims to show “solidarity and sympathy” over the homicide.
“We are all Catholics of France,” said Anouar Kbibech, the leader of the CFCM.
“We’re extremely touched,” the Archbishop of Rouen, Dominique Lebrun, told BFMTV.
“It’s an imperative signal of club. They’ve let us know, and I believe they’re earnest, that it’s not Islam which slaughtered Jacques Hamel.”
Muslims in Italy likewise went to Mass on Sunday. Three imams sat in the front column at Santa Maria Trastevere church in Rome.
