Umar Daraz, a resident of the eastern town of Okara, district of Punjab province, has been arrested under the section 123-A for raising an Indian Flag in Pakistan, to show his love for Indian Cricketer, Virat Kohli.
Daraz was arrested on January 26th during the T20 match series between India and Australia in which Kohli scored 90 runs. Daraz decided to celebrate and waved Indian Flag on his rooftop. After a while Police raided his house and registered a case against him under the section 123-A (acts of damaging the sovereignty of the country) which upholds 10 years in jail or fine, or both.
The Police Officer said, “He is a die-hard fan of Kohli and there were big posters pasted on the walls of his house”.
Daraz claimed that he hoisted the Indian flag only for the love of Viral Kohli, and that he is his favourite player. He also said that it was an unintentional mistake, he had not known that there were consequences, else he wouldn’t have done it in the first place, said the Police Official.
Daraz is under custody, held in Okara’s central prison and waiting for a court ruling on his case. It is yet to be decided by the court to accept his apology or punish him.
