In conversation with Ali Jehangir Siddiqui, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the USA

With the developing era of leadership and diplomacy, a new breed of people and names have cropped up who are making their mark in national and international circles. Among those names, we are proud to acknowledge Mr. Ali Jehangir Siddiqui’s efforts who is representing Pakistan as Ambassador to the world’s leading super power – the United States of America.

In an exclusive conversation with Pakistan’s Ambassador to the USA, Ali Jehangir Siddiqui, Haider Mehdi discussed a wide range of Pakistan-USA relationship issues.

Coming across the recent media US onslaught against Pakistan, Ali Jehangir discussed the difference between media rhetoric and how Pakistan is perceived in corridors of power and policy matters within the United States.

Taking the conversation forward, they further discussed the United States’ end game in Afghanistan. Ali Jehangir expressed his opinion that Pakistan is a vital partner in the region with respect to geopolitical matters and is playing an important role in regional stability. He enunciated that the American Government should and does recognize Pakistan’s efforts towards regional peace and harmony.

He also touched upon the need to change Pakistan’s relationship with the United States from a security focused view to an economic partnership and build commercial ties between the two nations. He stated that this is a task towards which he is working continually and which he believes is a major responsibility resting upon him. He expressed his hope that some major US companies would soon enter the Pakistan market as well.

Finally discussing the USA administration’s view of the election outcome, Jehangir discussed that with the massive turnover of youth voting in Pakistan in this electoral year, has given the US administration a positive feel and bodes well for the continuation of democracy.
