After channels going down all across the nation, leading social media sites including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube have been blocked as well. The ongoing steps are being taken as the security forces have been on route to the Faizabad operation with the protest that was taking place for the past one week.
The protest created by the Tehreek-e-Labaik Ya Rasool Allah Pakistan had blocked the principle freeway for the past many days, since November 6, inflicting hours-long site visitor’s snarls and enraging commuters. They were demanding that Legislation Minister Zahid Hamid resign over a hastily-abandoned modification to the oath that election candidates should swear.
As channels announced to be blocked down by pemra in a call of immediate action, Pemra stated; “It is informed that as per the Electronic Media Code of Conduct 2015, live coverage of any security operation is prohibited.”
The crackdown turned violent as more than 100 protesters were injured and a police officer was martyred in the attack. Viewers were encountering difficulties in staying abreast with developments that were taking place in the federal capital.
