Aspiring film-makers showcase abilities at Bahria University Short Film Festival

Bahria University organized its first ever Short Film Festival – titled BUSFF – at the iconic Bahria Karachi Campus.

The winning entry was 88 Men, by young film maker Mohsin Ali, who won the first prize of PKR 25,000. The first runner up was One Shot by Rabi Khan who won PKR 15,000 and the third prize of PKR 5,000 was won by Tu Koi Aur Hai by Abid Rizvi.

The Film Festival provided a platform for twelve (12) shortlisted young film makers from across Pakistan to present their work to an audience comprising of renowned film makers, students and the public. Entries were selected based on their themes of culture, tradition, heritage, architecture and social issues.

The Festival was organized by Bahria University’s Media Studies Department in collaboration with ARY and HBO. The event aimed at enlightening filmmaking students with hands-on practical experience, providing them with a platform to promote their work as well as offering meaningful entertainment for the viewing audience.

Mah-e-Darakshan, Head of Bahria University Media Studies Department highlighted, “At Bahria, our ambition is to provide students with the essential experiences and practical learnings that will prepare them for the work force. Over the past 8 years, the Media Studies department has prepared a new generation of professionals who are making a difference across Pakistan’s media industry. The Film Festival is yet another effort to provide a platform for students to showcase their abilities and better equip them with the requirements of the mainstream media industry.”

Bahria University’s Media Studies Department was established in 2009 with the ambition of training technically competent professionals for Pakistan’s media industry. The department offers courses that are a thorough blend of practical and theoretical aspects of media. Keeping with Bahria University’s tradition of imparting quality education, curriculum has been designed to produce well rounded media graduates, who are being readily absorbed by the media industry.
