With recent reports, a teenager has been charged over the murder of an Uber driver in Chicago. Prosecutors claim that 16-year old Eliza Wasni stabbed 34-year-old Grant Nelson with a machete.
Cook County State’s Attorney Michelle Cunningham said that the teenagers had stolen the weapons from a Walmart store around 3 a.m. Tuesday before calling the ride which was a few blocks away. She allegedly started stabbing and hacking the driver after he picked her up.
Nelson pulled the car over and escaped into a nearby building, where he started pushing buzzers and shouted that he was “going to die.”
He succumbed to his injuries at a medical facility.
The deceased’s family and friends remembered him as a kind and happy person.
“The loss of intelligence and conversation and nuance and thoughtfulness that he brought into all of our lives is going to be felt, and it will reverberate with us throughout the coming weeks and months and years, and it is not a hole that can be easily filled,” the victim’s sister Alexandra said.
Uber, in a statement, said that they are fully cooperating with the law enforcement agencies in the investigation.
“We are heartbroken by the loss of one of our partners, Grant Nelson,” the spokeswoman said in a statement. “Our deepest sympathies and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
