Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) has denounced 11 mineral water brands as unsafe. The recently released report has declared that these water brands are hazardous to health due to chemical and microbiological contamination.
The monitoring report was based on the time period of October to December 2016 with the samples collected from 11 different brands. As per the findings, the obtained samples had high degree of micrological bacteria; Sodium and Potassium along with dangerously high presence of Arsenic.
The alarming aspect of the finding has suggested that about 7 mineral water firms; Lite Aqua, Royal Blue, Rahat, Well Care, New Premier, Aqua Drink Water, Aqua Safe; had the perilous quantity of Arsenic on the levels of 12 to 34 PPB as compared to PSQCA water quality standard for arsenic (10 ppb).
The abundance of Arsenic in the body can lead to skin diseases, illnesses, and infections, which may lead to the problems associated to heart, black foot, diabetes, kidney, skin diseases, hypertension, birth defects and different type of cancers.
The findings of the unsafe mineral water brands are as following; 10 been declared as chemically unsafe while one is biologically insufficient for the health.
The department has forwarded the report to concerned authorities for an action to be taken against those who are playing with the lives of people.
