Facebook blocks 152 blasphemous pages, assures NA

With the immense pressure and continuous action against the social media site, 152 Facebook pages have been blocked having blasphemous content.

The information was released by the Interior Minister in response to a question raised during the 4th sitting of 41st session of National Assembly. The relative concerns of the house were assured that the issue had been taken up by Facebook officials in the US, to block and close down blasphemous forums on the site and trace the individuals involved.

He further claimed that three accused had been arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), whereas eight individuals were placed on Exit Control List (ECL).

Chaudhry Nisar said that the social media officials have been requested to visit Pakistan to take immediate action against blasphemous sites.

According to him, a video conference was held by Secretary Interior and Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) with the Facebook officials on 7th April, in order to resolve the issue and find out permanent solution against the menace of blasphemy.
