Amazon had filed a patent in order to use airships for the storage of its products. The intended airships will be used as a base for delivery-drones. Though the patent was initially filed nearly two years ago, it was just spotted by technology data and research firm ‘CB Insights’ analyst, Zoe Leavitt.
As per the details revealed through the patent, drones launched by the “airborne fulfillment centers” (AFCs)” will use far less power than those launched by the fuel from the ground.
Furthermore, these AFCs will soar high at nearly 45,000 feet (13,700 meters). They would be refilled and restocked by “shuttles or smaller airships.”
Amazon hasn’t revealed its plans regarding the ‘sky drones’ yet. However, Reuters has revealed that the company has laid groundwork for the operational drones starting delivery from the next year.
